How much child care experience and education does CrossWays have?  CrossWays PreSchool has been serving young children and their families since 1991.  Our teachers have many years of experience working with young children. All are college educated; most have degrees in early childhood or related fields. Most important, we understand young children and how to help them learn!

Is CrossWays licensed?  We are licensed through the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.

Do staff members have training in CPR and First Aid?  Our staff members are regularly trained in CPR and First Aid.

What is unique about CrossWays PreSchool?

Several things make us unique.

  • We are a ministry of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, so there is a spiritual component to our program. This is not the focus of what we do, but rather it is naturally woven into everything we do.
  • We have a strong emphasis on nature education. Our site includes a wetland, a prairie, a savannah woodland, a bird and butterfly garden and a vegetable garden, plus trees to hug and hills on which to roll and sled! Research shows free money lending agreement template the many cognitive, physical, social and spiritual benefits of connecting children with nature, thus we schedule activities so that the children can use these wonderful areas regularly in all seasons.
  • We take several field trips throughout the year.  In addition, we transform our multi-purpose room into a huge dramatic play area twice each year. Each year we choose two destinations or themes, and each class then spends a portion of their class time in the “Museum Room” for an in-depth experience. Past themes include Hawaii, Australia, Africa, The Garden, Growing Up With Jesus, Animal Adventures, USA, Noah’s Ark, and The Great Book Tour.

What ages are the children whom CrossWays serves?  We offer traditional and enrichment programs for children who are 2-5  years old, plus enrichment programs for half day kindergarteners (children aged 5 years by September 1).

What are CrossWays PreSchool class sizes and teacher/child ratios? Per DCFS regulations, child to teacher ratios are 8 to 1 for our two year olds and 10 to 1 for our 3-5 year olds. However, our ideal class of two year olds has 8-10 children, three year olds has 10-15 children,  and four year olds has 15-20 children. Most classes are led by a teacher and an assistant.

What is a Parent Helper at CrossWays?  Parent helping is NOT mandatory, but parent helpers are greatly appreciated.  If able to help, families are scheduled approximately once a month to act as an extra set of adult eyes, ears, hands and heart.  Helpers do not have to be parents – we welcome grandparents, aunts and uncles, nannies and other responsible adults.

Is it possible to attend CrossWays PreSchool in the morning and Celebration Childcare for the rest of the day?  Yes! We are happy to transfer children back and forth at your request. Fees for both programs apply.
